Taeyang Metal Industrial Breaks Ground On Franklin, Kentucky Facility

Members of the Franklin industrial community gathered Jan. 9 to celebrate the future of South Korea-based company, Taeyang Metal Industrial Co. Ltd. as they broke ground on the company's first facility in the U.S. Taeyang Metal Industrial, located in the Henderson Industrial Park, produces cold-rolled steel products and fasteners for the automotive industry.Construction on the 101,000-square-foot facility on 30 acres of land is underway with an approximate opening date of September 2018, as previously reported by the Franklin Favorite. "On this special day I would like to express my deepest appreciations to all of the distinguished guests who are here," Taeyang President and CEO Howard Hahn said.

"This is truly a milestone event in the proud history of our company."

Hahn said since the company began "advancing into the global market" five overseas plants have been established in locations including China, India, Mexico, and now the U.S. "As you know, Kentucky is ranked third in car production for the automotive industry in the U.S." Hahn said. "Taeyang Metal Industrial may not be very big in size in its early stages, but I believe it will continue to grow in the coming years and bring a ripple effect on surrounding automobile industries. "Hahn said the goal is to hire 70 to 80 people with the production capacity of approximately 6,000 tons per year. "I would like to emphasize again that Taeyang Metal's investment in Franklin, Kentucky is not just for the success of the business, but has value in a win-win situation for the local community and economy," Hahn said. Franklin-Simpson Industrial Authority Chairman Gary Broady called the event "a significant milestone for the community."

"This is the first Korean manufacture to locate in Simpson County," Broady said. "Taeyang had several opportunities and several different locations to look and different states to choose from for their first plant in the U.S. After meeting with president Hahn and other members of the executive team, we knew that Taeyang would be a great fit for Franklin, we're just glad that Taeyang felt the same way about our community." State Rep. Wilson Stone offered congratulations to the company on behalf of the state of Kentucky. "This area is a jewel in economic development for the whole commonwealth, it's amazing how well the people work together to bring industry here," Stone said. "What an international community this is we've talked about how many nations are represented in the industrial parks. From all of us who work in Frankfort, we appreciate what happens at the local level and we want to accommodate it and we want to make it better and easier for industry like Taeyang Metal to come and employ our people."

Simpson County Judge/Executive Jamie Spears welcomed the company's team to Franklin. "Welcome and thank you for choosing Franklin, Kentucky for your first American plant," Spears said. "Taeyang Metals has a rich history as a supplier to the auto industry. We are proud that they have chose our town, Franklin, to invest over $18 million in equipment and facility."

Franklin Mayor pro tem Larry Dixon spoke on behalf of Ronnie Clark, who was unable to attend the ceremony. "We look forward to working with you and helping our community grow," Dixon said.
